for those who read the silmarillion..is it anything as good as lord of the rings?

  1. rackette said: it was really hard for me to read in high school, and i’ve always loved reading. i only read the first chapter. i re-read it like a year ago, a year out of college, and it was muuuch easier and more interesting. the first part is really the hardest.
  2. wolfbiyo said: Yes; it’s very different, but just as good. In fact, I’d say it made a stronger impression in me because it allowed me to understand many things within LOTR… surely a must-read for any LOTR fan!
  3. paigeofpaper said: No; but at the same time, it is far different from LOTR. Of course it’s along the same lines, in the same world, but it’s much closer to mythology and history than LOTR is; definitely a more challenging read, it just has a lot more detail.
  4. thefullbronte said: I liked it actually better, because it goes into the origins of Middle Earth and the characters. It will help you understand them more and truly appreciate Tolkien’s genius. A fantastic read.
  5. laddershield said: It’s notably different than Lord of the Rings - LOTR can read like a sort of history, but this is pretty hardcore. It’s a wonderful read though, considering how rich it is; a history of middle earth from the very beginning. Love it.

  7. fattybolger said: Yeah, it’s different, but I liked it a lot.
  8. toralinda said: It’s sort of like reading a history book - since that’s basically what it is. It’s got tons of interesting information about the beginnings of Middle-earth, but it’s VERY hard to get through if it’s not something you normally go for.
  9. daryls-little-ass-kicker said: It’s very different and a bit complicated. It has a-lot of names places and events. But is worth, especially the Beren/Luthien story <3
  10. ladyofrohan said: It’s really, really dry. I mean, it’s IN Middle Earth, but it’s sort of like… the history of Middle Earth. It’s long winded like LotR can be sometimes, but even more so. It’s still a good read to find out more about Middle Earth lore and history :)
